Submariner Early MilSub Rare M-5513
This is a pre-owned Rolex Submariner early milsub rare men's watch reference M-5513. It has a 40.00mm case size in null, with dial on a green nato bracelet, powered by an automatic movement. This Rolex is in excellent condition complete with Rolex Service Pouch. The watch dates to Circa 1975. Our reference is ATS-W008160 should you need to quote this.
The Rolex ‘MilSub’ Submariner was produced by Rolex and issued to divers by the British Ministry of Defence. These Rolex MilSub watches were used by both “clearance” divers who engaged in shallow, attack-type swimming as well as deep, mine-hunting divers. While a number of different Rolex Submariner watches were used by members of the British Royal Navy, the military-issued ref. 5513/0, which was released in 1976, is thought to be one of the rarest of them all. Reference Number: 5513/0 Nickname: "MilSub" Production: +/- 1200 ever produced Case Size: 40mm Materials: Stainless steel Features: Bi-directional diver’s bezel, rare “sword” hands, modified large “T” above the depth rating, and a case with fixed bars between the lugs. Dial: Black w/ luminous hour markers Bezel: Black, bi-directional, aluminum insert, custom made for the watch. Movement: Rolex Caliber 1520 (automatic) Water Resistance: 200 meters / 660 feet Strap/Bracelet: Pass-thru NATO-style strap This early example would likely have been one of the first issues with the serial number dating the watch to a 1975 manufacture. It is a lovely example with some usual wear and patina which you'd expect for a watch of this age. The case and shoulders bear some marks as seen in the pictures but retain their profiles. The dial is generally in excellent condition and of a lovely even patina to the hour markers. From our research we believe the bezel to be a later custom made replacement made to look period correct for the watch and the hands could also be a period replacement from another watch. Both however match the dial nicely. As most collectors will know the dial is where most of the value lies and a discerning collector could obtain the correct bezel and hands at their expense.
